“Online Therapy for gender dysphoria | AJ Goodlad Therapy”, “Online Therapy to help me come out as trans | AJ Goodlad Therapy”,

"Walk and Talk" Therapy

I offer ‘Walk and Talk’ sessions on the South Downs during Spring, Summer, Autumn months. Meeting for the standard therapeutic hour (i.e. 50 minutes), or the option to extend your time in nature for a session and half (i.e. 75 minutes). During bad weather, or if clients are away from the local area, we can meet Online, bridging that gap.  Here are some of the key advantages of Walk and Talk Therapy;

Enhanced Mental Wellbeing & Reduced Stress: Walking elevates endorphin levels and decreases cortisol, which can help sooth feelings of anxiety and depression, both common issues clients bring to sessions. I’m often struck with how clients anxiety and depression can be eased when walking together on the hills.

Less Pressure on You: Feelings of shame and/or guilt can make topics difficult to bring up. Walking together side-by-side can minimise the discomfort of eye contact, which can be helpful for both neurodivergent and neurotypical folx.

Boosted Creativity and Adaptability: Movement encourages creative thinking and can help to dismantle mental barriers or blocks. Clients quite literally create and lead on trending their own path, with me closely with care and attention, following, or just beside them. This way of working can be a beautiful and impactful within our therapeutic alliance.

Physical Health Benefits: Offering light exercise advantages, such as improved circulation, can reduce blood pressure, and a create higher metabolic rate. This can holistically support both emotional and physical wellbeing.

Connection to Nature: Sadly, the UK is one of least ‘nature-connected’ nations in the world. Being in green spaces can actually help clients feel more grounded and present, fostering feelings of self-worth and peace. Meeting for sessions in nature can help clients reconnect with themselves, and the benefits that nature provides.

Accessibility: Walk and Talk is an excellent alternative for clients who feel too confined or anxious in a traditional therapy room environment. Thinking about ADHD clients as example, it can be easier to gather thoughts when active. For clients who don’t want to meet online, lets go outside and walk n talk it out!
